The Aston 61
Church Street
Constructed
around 1928 by Gilliland Stikeleather, the four-story Aston was
intended to be Asheville's most grand apartment residence. However, the
Great Depression struck and the building was never finished to the
extent and luxury which was intended.
The
Aston sold more than a decade later to F.E. and Charles B. Branson of
Canton, N.C., and continued to be passed down to Branson's relatives
until it was purchased in 2001 by a group of local developers.
Surrounded
by trees and three stunning churches, The Aston offers urban living in
a quiet setting and is the only downtown residence currently featuring
greenway space. The Aston is now home to 14 residential condominiums
with some units still offered by the developer. Historic tax credits
are possible with the purchase of a condominium in The Aston.
